It is essential to find ways to overcome these emotions to stay productive and effective.

You need to be skilled at switching your focus when needed and being 100% present, for being at your best to guide your team and make proper decisions. Carrying emotional baggage can drain your energy and impact your ability to handle issues in an optimal manner.

If the emotional situation requires your attention, you should take responsibility and acknowledge it, try to resolve it, or take time off to deal with it. If it’s not currently solvable, you should try and take control of your emotions. Rising above your feelings or getting support to handle them is worth the effort, and it will reward you in the end.

Being a manager means more than just assigning tasks. It requires problem-solving skills, creativity, crisis management, and leadership. Leaders look at situations rationally, see the big picture along with the small details, and strive for the best solution.

To achieve this, you need to focus on the situation at hand. If a colleague’s attitude, for example, or a personal issue bothers you and you can’t improve it at the moment, take a few minutes to reset. Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and imagine yourself in a peaceful place. Doing this several times a day can help you stay calm, focused, and productive.
